This is an older video, and I am sure that deck installations were more affordable in 2016. I was literally shocked when I got estimates recently on the cost of rebuilding my deck. There is a point when it is just no longer afforadable for the average homeowner. I think that time has come. I am tempted to call West Coast Decks for an estimate, since they are in my area, but would their pricing be more inline with my budget? I doubt it. Could I build it myself and have a quality product while saving money? Good question.

Great work, can we do the same way you did but not underneath the and we attach the beams to this LVL with hanger?

It seems to me that you didn't repair any rafter tails. You cut them off and installed a fascia.

Their webpage says to use galvanized nails. Don't use galvanized with Cedar. You will eventually get black lines from the nail heads due to the reaction of the oils in the cedar and the nails. You need to use stainless steel nails every time with cedar.

Why are spacing the floor joists 2’ center. That deck board will be bowing from day one

Yeah this was kind of useful. But it also really does just ignore a bunch of necessary things…

If you're not a seasoned carpenter a "Sawzall" is a dangerous tool to use on a ladder because it can bind/kick. Once you're comfortable with the ladder use a good new blade and for this job, install it upside down!!!

You felt as though you were in Berlin with the team, you were in the boat with the boys and the feeling of such pride, I too was inn tears at the end.. What an amazing story. These boy are hero’s .
